9 Key Screen Shots Of Outbreak

The genre of Outbreak is a 1995 Thriller on a American medical disaster film directed by Wolfgang Petersen and very loosely based on Richard Preston's non-fiction book The Hot Zone. The film stars Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo and Morgan Freeman, and co-stars Cuba Gooding, Jr., Kevin Spacey, Donald Sutherland and Patrick Dempsey.

The first screenshot is an extreme long shot that clearly is shot from a high angle to provide an establishing shot to the audience. This indicates the location of the film and where the main action could take place. It is also key to note that the opening destination is in a remote and isolated area, which could link to the phrase 'outbreak' to highlight the narrative of the film. The use of the parachute it shows that is may have some importance or link to the government as it is a remote location and setting.

My second shot shows a bright, big, explosion of some sort coming from where the parachute was situated. Through the sudden explosion it helps to engage the audience which in turn grabs there attention to watch on. It also gives a sense of confusion to the audience as they do not  know the reason for why the explosion has happened. From the first shot to this one there is a sudden change in the use of lighting from low key lightning to a dramatic exaggeration in the use of high key lighting.

This next shot is an extreme long shot which shows the vast open area in which the scene is taken place. Also this shot shows that the destination is a very open, deserted area which creates a sense of mystery why there was explosions and human life present. In this shot it also indicates that it could be about something military based or mission based by the use of the plane. The use of low key lighting here helps to highlight the dark atmosphere which is created by the weather.

The fourth screen shot is a close up shot in the foreground of the destroyed habitat of the monkey from the explosion which is shown in background. The use of the monkey shows that there is some form of wildlife present with this remote, deserted island. The monkey also hints to the audience that the film could be something possibly to do with wildlife/animals.

This shot is a point of view shot as it implies that the audience are seeing it from a humans perspective. This shot instantly hints to the audience that the destination is very secure and is where top secretive army medical research is happening through the use of subtitles. It isn't just the subtitles which gives the sense of it being a secure, secretive place its the way there is a highly compact army vehicle and a security officer in the foreground. There is also the use of very bright, clear lighting being used to clearly show the audience what is going on in the secret location.

This sixth shot is an extreme close up shot of highly elite medical equipment and someone who is examining evidence or samples. The use of the face mask, gloves and the safety coat suggests to the audience that there being sometimes dealt with great care and precision. The in turn creates a sense of danger of whatever is being dealt with could be highly dangerous if it is not dealt with properly.

This next screen is another close up shot of a top security equipment  and thick bomb proof door. The use of the top security equipment shows that only a few people have and do see past what is behind these closed doors. The shot also helps highly emphasis the doors which create enigma as there is something behind them which is key to the film which the audience can not see. Consequently this will help to entice the audience to watch on as they are wanting to know what is going to happen next.

The eighth shot is a zoom shot coming in from outside of the window. The reason for this shot being used is because it only give the audience another small clue to what is going on within this very secretive building. This shot also shows that there is a highly dangerous operation being carried out with top safety equipment being used as it looks like there is a substance that can not come into direct contact with human life. Also low key lighting has been used in this shot to prevent to much being given away as there is no certain focus point to the shot.

The last and final shot from the opening sequence is a jump shot to a completely new location which looks in a completely new location to the last. This has completely drawn away the audience from the remote, secretive location and has left them with a sense of confusion as they don't have a clear understanding of what is now going on. The only thing that the audience can use from this shot which relates to the previous ones is from the use of animals.
