Production Diary 1

As a group we decided to watch a few opening sequences of successful thriller films so that we so that we could get a general idea of the camera angles that are needed to create a thriller film. By having a general idea we made a decision on several key shots that we really wanted to include which where effective but which would clearly state the conventions of the thriller film.

What Is Genre?

What Is Genre?

Genre is Latin and is any category of literature, music or other forms of art or entertainment, whether written or spoken, audio or visual, based on some set of criteria. Genres form by conventions that change over time as new genres are invented and the use of old ones fade out. This often works by the use of multiple genres keeping but also changing these conventions.

The setting is the setting or environment where the story and action takes place. The theme or topic refers to the issues or concepts that the film revolves. The mood is the emotional tone of the film and the effect it has on the environment. The Format refers to the way the film was shot (e.g. Widescreen) or the way it’s presented. Additional ways of categorizing film genres is by the target audience (e.g., children's film, teen film or women's film) or by type of production (e.g., B movie, big-budget blockbuster or low-budget film).

Film genres often split out into lots of different sub genres. Genres that at first may seem unrelated can be combined to form hybrid genres, such as the mixing of horror and comedy in the Evil Dead films. Other popular genre combinations are the romantic comedy and the action comedy film.

Textual Analysis On Inception (Camera Shots)

The cinematography is started instantly by a extreme close up camera shot, combined with the use of an extreme low key dark lighting to show what is deemed to be the main character. This shot has been instantly used to show the facial expression of the actor. The facial expression instantly implies to the audience that the actor is in a sense of fear as he looks like he is in danger. The camera is then turned and is focused on the actor undoing the safe through the use of another extreme close up shot. This shot has a sense of importance as it could be a vital point throughout the film. After this we instantly see the actor taking a brown envelope out of the safe but he quickly changes it with a identical brown envelope. The use of the envelope portrays that whatever is inside of it is going to play a key part within the film. Another key shot that is used is a jump shot. The jump shot was being used between both characters to show multiple perspectives to the audience. This overall give a judgement from both characters, mainly through there facial expressions.

What Is Representation and How Does It Impact a Audience?

What Is Representation and How Does It Impact a Audience?

Media representations are the ways in which the media portrays particular groups, communities, experiences, ideas, or topics in a particular way, with in society. Typically it is the way someone is being perceived within a film and how the process of what they have been doing has given this impression to the audience. For representation to impact a audience they need to share something or experience something which they can connect over.

Introduction To Media

Throughout my media course work I will be uploading various amounts of Media tasks through the software blogger as it is very clear and precious which will mean I can organise my work effectively. Throughout this coursework there will be various different tasks which will be revolved around our  chosen genre Thriller. All these tasks that we will conduct will be to build up our knowledge and understanding of the Thriller genre in great detail. After all the research and tasks have been completed it will give us a strong basis which we can plan, shoot our film then edit it. Once this is done it will be upload onto our blogs.
