Identifying Traits Setting/ Mystery/ Props

Setting / Location - The majority of thrillers are located in area's such as towns, commonly in a place which is empty and deserted. The action is usually around a particular place or building therefore when the scene becomes tense or unsettling, the building or place can be seen as a safe zone within the scene

Mystery -  Suspense and tension  in order to prevent the audience in knowing too much about a little, which leaves the audience in a state of unknowing.

Props - Most thriller films all use similar props, these be including a knife or gun, police cars

What Is Narrative ?

What Is Narrative ?

Narrative is a film that tells a fictional or fictionalized story, event or narrative. In this style of film, the narrative is extremely believable and the characters used help convince the audience that the fiction they are seeing is real. Lighting and camera movement, among other cinematic elements, have become very important in these films.

There are high amounts of detail that goes into the screenplays of narratives, as these films rarely change from the predetermined behaviors and lines of the screenplays to maintain a sense of realism. Actors must deliver dialogue and action in a believable but relate able way, so as to persuade the audience that the film is real life.

Thriller Stereotypes (Gender)

Thriller Stereotypes (Gender)

Males
In thriller films males are predominantly the protagonist as they usually play a main or leading part throughout the film and also can be antagonists as they are usually fighting a battle against something or being evil. The males are usually portrayed as being strong, independent characters which turn out to be the hero's within the film once they have figured out the enigma.

Females
In Thrillers females don't have a particular stereotype as there role can variety from a damsel in distress or to a trained assassin. A key part a female would play in a thriller would be the damsel in distress because women can be deemed as being very vulnerable, all most innocent and helpless. Through women playing this role it helps to draw a lot more sympathy from the audience rather than if a male played this role.

Production Diary 11

At this stage we decided to start exploring the famous narrative theory's that have been founded and developed over the years. Each individual theory had its interpretation of narrative structure and what a successful narrative theory should consist off. As a result I decided to create a prezi presentation on each of these theory's.

Production Diary 10

Through today's  research of specific thriller traits and conventions we explored multiple different narrative structures and from here we decided what one would preferably suit ours best. This gave us the knowledge of what the traits and conventions are but more specifically the huge impact that they will have upon a certain audience. This also showed us the importance of including these specific points throughout our production.
